I wrote this watching you sleep by the fire, listening to the storm outside and the rain falling heavy, keeping rhythm with your breath.
It made me think about you. About us. About how you came into my life and, day by day, became so much of what I needed simply by being your imperfect self. Sitting here beside you, I just wanted to give thanks.
Today, I went with the flow. I let the breeze carry us, and honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better fall day.
I know you had plans. I know you were excluded, and I know that hurt. I wanted you to have something good to remember about today, too. Something that reminded you how much you are wanted here.
That’s why I put a little extra thought into making it special. I hope it worked. Watching you rest beside this fire, I think we found something we both needed.
Thank you for being my plus one to life. For being yourself with me. For showing up for me in ways that let me put my guard down, too.
You’re asleep, so I’ll let these words wait until morning. Right now, I’m just grateful you’re here.
