I’m sorry. We were kids and I’m sorry that I punished you for doing what you did: irrevocably damaging our trust and hurting my feelings. We both know I should have just let you go. I held on for months and you dealt with my fluctuating emotions, all the while I blamed you entirely. You just took the punches… until you couldn’t anymore, until I realized all I was doing was prolonging the pain for us both. It felt like the end of the world for me when you told me what you did and then again when we agreed we had to break up and again when we finally went no contact. I know it’s dramatic and I’m so sorry. I should have had friends to go to instead or a goddamn therapist. I don’t know why I have this need to make sense of things that don’t make sense, and what you did didn’t make sense. It’s not supposed to. You made a mistake. We were kids. I wish I could’ve forgiven you then and I wish I could tell you that I’m sorry now. I wish we could be friends. I wish I could break this weird wall that’s been between us this whole time; I think it’s served its purpose. And I know you probably don’t care anymore or even want my belated apology.
