When dude from California started spreading lies about me, you didn't bother to ask me for my side of things, you just melded into the false narrative, and decided all of our interactions, all of the warmth, the fondness, and heartfelt conversations about kids, dogs, exes, among many others were meaningless, and had not served as the foundation for a lifelong friendship. You refused to interact with me at all, even when our jobs required it. I did not lash out, or become vindictive. Instead, I did my level best to understand that you are a mother, fiercely protective of your children. I continued to hold you in high regard, continued with my respect for you both personally, and professionally. All while being deeply hurt that you had not considered getting my side of the story, and behaved as if I were simply not there. Then came the time, after nearly 4 years of utter contempt for me, suddenly there we were, seated around a conference table, forced to interact with one another. Which at the end of that meeting, you made the first move, extended an olive branch, which I readily accepted, and felt lighter somehow, as if the very heavy weight of all of your contempt and disdain had been lifted, and suddenly I am engaging within the familiar framework of what I viewed as a mutual friendship. The warmth and laughter returned, things were almost as they were before, if not for the ever present sadness that had settled deep within my soul, which was the result of this recent series of events. Upon my abrupt departure, you repeated that "this isn't the end," which seemed to suggest that we would remain friends. I was skeptical of course, for good reason as it turned out, because I have heard from you once, shortly after having left, and I made to attempts to start up a conversation with you on messenger, both attempts ignored. It appears as though the entire group, has accepted the artfully crafted narrative as though it were factual. But all but the most naive' persons among you, actually know the reality of the matter. I can picture how the gossip went for a day or two after, then things settled into a routine, as if I had not existed. I can live with all of that. What troubles me still however, is the degree with which I misjudged the character of people who have no depth whatsoever. Anyway I slice it however, does not diminish the sadness that I feel .
