We aren’t like some 12 years old’s, and especially not you. I genuinely don’t see why I should message you “happy birthday” when we’re no longer together. I think this has less to do with your birthday and more to do with you wanting some sort of excuse for contact between us. I’m not like your other exes who may still reach out on birthdays, and I’m not you. If a relationship is over, then the contact is over too. I don’t believe in forcing pointless communication just because it’s someone’s birthday. You’re not entitled to a birthday message from me simply because we used to be together. If we’ve chosen to end things, then that means accepting that there are certain things that come with no longer being in each other’s lives — including not hearing from me on your birthday.
