You don’t love me anymore. I get it. Thank you for being honest with me. I wish I could say I feel the same way, but I don’t. And if I’m being completely honest, I don’t know how to feel about any of this yet.

I was excited about us. About the things we have in common, the things we want out of life, and the possibility of building something meaningful together. Maybe I let myself get carried away with that possibility, but it meant something to me. You mean something to me.

A part of me wishes we could start again. Really start again. Have the difficult conversations, acknowledge where we’ve hurt each other, take accountability for our parts in it, and see whether there’s something here worth working toward. Not because we’re lonely or because we’re afraid of losing each other, but because we’d genuinely want to choose each other.

I know I can’t make you feel something you don’t feel, and I wouldn’t want you to enter a relationship with me out of guilt, obligation, or fear of hurting me. You deserve to be certain about the person you’re choosing, and I would want that certainty to be genuine.

But I won’t pretend that hearing this doesn’t hurt. It does. Because if I’m honest with myself, I wanted this to be you. I wanted to see where we could go, and I wanted the possibility of us to be something we explored together rather than something I had to quietly let go of.

I don’t know what the future holds, and I’m not asking you to promise me anything. I just needed to acknowledge that what I feel is real, even if it isn’t something you can reciprocate right now.

I care about you, and I’m grateful for what we’ve shared. I just need to figure out how to hold those feelings while accepting where we are.

I wish things were different. I really do.

~T
